Author Visit to Sedlescombe

4 November 2021

The Key Stage 2 children at Sedlescombe were very lucky to have a visit from local author Thomas Taylor, writer of the Eerie on Sea series, inspired by Hastings.
The children prepared for his visit by reading the introduction to Malamander, the first book in the Eerie on Sea series and producing their own piece of writing in the style of Thomas Taylor. The children with the most successful pieces of writing from each class got to share their writing with Thomas. He really enjoyed this and was impressed by the quality of the children’s writing and their confidence to share it with him.
Thomas then talked to the whole of Key Stage 2 about his books and the writing and illustration process and did a question-and-answer session for the children. He was very impressed with the quality and thoughtfulness of the children’s questions. After this the children could buy his books which he then signed for each of them. We were also presented with a signed set of books for the Key Stage 2 library.
His visit really inspired the children to want to read and write. A big thank to Thomas for visiting and The Hastings Bookshop for organising
